I sure wish I had time to keep up on this blogging thing like I would like too, but...now that I'm working again I don't really have the time.
Just wanted to bring you up to date on the past week.
Yes, the car is a total loss. I'm waiting for the insurance guy to call me so that we can discuss the amount that they are going to give us. He should call sometime today.
We received another blessing this past weekend though. My dad and Lorraine bought a new truck and so we now have their van. There are only 4 of us in the family so I suppose I'll have to adopt a few kids or something because we now have 2 vans and 1 scooter...but we really feel blessed to have it. It is a 2003 Kia Sedona with about 43,000 miles on it. We told Robert that now he gets to drive a van because for the time being we are not trading or selling anything. It has been such a blessing because we really don't have the time to go out looking for something and the price that they sold it to us for was better than anything else that we could have bought.
We found out yesterday that Gio's brother Pino is coming a week earlier than expected. Boy do I feel stressed now to get everything done before he gets here, with no time to do it!! The whole family is going to have to chip in and help. I guess we will just take things one day at a time and what gets done will get done and the rest will have to wait for another day. We are really looking forward to his visit. I know that Gio especially is excited to see him again. It has been 4 years so it's time.
Brian finished his soccer season last weekend (I'll post pics on the next blog and write more about it). They had a fun time and are a cute bunch of boys.
Robert is getting ready for prom this weekend. They have some fun things planned. He is also finishing up his last few school projects that he has. I can't believe that he will be done in 3 weeks, though I'm ready for it to be over and have a break for a few years!
Things are the same at Gio's work. They are expecting some changes in the next few weeks, so that should be interesting. (Will write more about that later too!)
As for me, well, I had orientation for jetBlue on Tuesday and Wednesday and can I just say that I'm really going to love this job. I can't wait to really get into it.
The actual training starts on Monday and I have to memorize airport codes this weekend and the call flow before Monday. The people there are very nice and I have been impressed with the company so far. I haven't seen anything that I don't like! Also the fact that they are one of only two airlines that made a profit in the first quarter doesn't hurt either! I have made some friends there already and am looking forward with great anticipation to the day I can start "jetting" which will be around the 22nd of May. Because you see, at jetBlue, you don't fly....you Jet!!!
(And before I forget I need to put a disclaimer that anything that I write about jetBlue is my own opinion and views and not a public announcement for the company). We need to state that every time we write about the company on our blogs, so you might see it from time to time!
Anyway...like I was saying, it is a great place and the benefits are amazing...especially the travel. It will be a great opportunity for our family!!!
Well, better end this post...I have a lot to do around the house!!! Sorry no pics this time, but next time there will be some.
Happy Thursday!!! And remember....one day at a time!!!

SO YOU HAD A BAD DAY!
I woke up Wednesday morning full of energy and was going to enjoy the sunshine by going for a walk down by the river, then I was going to come home and do some more cleaning since I only have a few more days until the real world starts again and I go back to work.
I had picked up the house and done a load of laundry and was getting ready to go for that walk when my cell phone rang. It was Robert. Now you have to understand...when Robert is at school he doesn't call me, he text's me. So when he calls I know there is a problem or he wants to sluff a class (senioritis has arrived). I decided that I would answer and see what he wanted.
Robert: "Mom?"
Me: "Yeah Robert, what's up?"
Robert: "I was in an accident"
Me: "WHAT???"
Robert: "I was in an accident"
Me: (heart beating out of my chest) "Are you hurt?" "Was anyone with you?"
Robert: "No, I'm okay, and Matt and Jordan are with me and they're okay too"
Me: (sigh of relief but still worried) "How's the car?" (Our 2003 Kia Spectra that is paid for)
Robert: "Jacked up!" (I won't add the other words)
Me: "Where are you?" "Don't talk to the police until I get there, don't say it was your fault and don't say how fast you were going, just tell them I'm on my way." Robert: "Okay, and mom, hurry!"
How nice to know that he still needs me, even at 18 years old!
As this conversation is going on 1000 things are running through my mind like are they really okay, is anyone hurt, what happened, whose fault is it, how much will our insurance go up, I need to call Giovanni, where are the car keys, I need a hat on my head because I haven't taken a shower yet. I grab my keys and run out the door. Thank goodness the accident wasn't far from our house (700 N. and University Ave.) All the while driving there the only thing that I can think about is "my baby". Is he okay???? What about Matt and Jordan-are they okay. And the other car and people? All the while Robert and I are texting one another and I'm telling him I'm on my way. The police arrive and he wants to know where I am and I tell him I'm turning the corner and see him and the police.

(this is the damage to the ladies van)
He sees me and I see a small look of relief on his face, though he is VERY upset. He's an 18 year old boy with a temper and mad at the world right at that moment and his car is a mess...As a mother I have the choice, reprimand him for what has happen, or just tell him I love him and that the car doesn't matter. It was an easy choice to make. I hug him and tell him that I'm glad he is okay and that cars can be replaced or fixed and people can't. I'm also so proud of Robert, Matt and Jordan because all the boys were wearing their seat belts.

The police officer and the lady he hit were both so nice. Robert got the ticket for not being an observant driver. There was a lot of traffic on University Ave and all at once everyone slammed their brakes. Robert swerved to not hit the van in front of him, but he got her on the back side. Her van got a small dent, but it took out the front side of our car. *tear*

Giovanni arrived and took control of the situation! My hero! He was so good with Robert. He hugged him and told him that the most important thing was that everyone was okay! We called the insurance company, took the car to the repair shop and the boys back to school.

As it ends up the car most likely will be totaled! It doesn't really look that bad, but there is a lot of damage underneath that can't be seen. What a shame. It was a great car. I'm still waiting to hear from the adjuster. Then we'll have to make some choices.
Thank goodness for my dad! He is letting us borrow his Kia Sedona mini-van. So for now we are a two van one scooter family.
I've learned a few things from this experience.
1. Make sure that everyday you let you family know that you love them!
2. Things happen!
3. Thank goodness for cell phones and texting!
4. There are good people in the world. (The lady was soooo nice to Robert)
5. Police officers can be nice too!
6. I love my son more than anything in the world. (I already knew I did, but when you hear the word accident your heart drops)
In this world we are so attached to things, and things don't really matter. Yes, I am sad about the car because now isn't a convenient time to have to deal with fixing a car or getting a new car. However, I have also seen an outpouring of love and concern from other people. We have been offered the use of some one's car if we need one, people have called to make sure that Robert is okay, and just the moral support from friends. The accident could have been so much worse. If Robert hadn't swerved the car behind them would have hit them and they would have been crushed from both ends.
The main thing that I have learned is....don't yell at your kids if they're in an accident (I didn't, I'm so proud of myself). They are hard enough on themselves!

Pay It Forward
Sometimes in life we have the chance to meet someone who makes a difference in our lives. Someone who touches us in a way that no one else can. Our family has had several such encounters. We have been blessed by the generosity and kindness of others more times than I can think. There are two instances that stick out clearly in my mind. Though they are personal in nature, I would like to share with you the feelings that we felt, because that is what is really important. It isn't so much what the person did, but the reason they did it, and how it made us feel.
I remember in both instances telling the individuals involved that we would never forget their kindness/generosity towards our family and both times we were told that for them it was an honor and a privilege to be able to help us. I remember saying something like, "we can never repay you for what you have done for us", and in both circumstances, though completely different in nature, the response was, "the way that you can repay us it to serve others. Any time you have the opportunity, serve. Help some one else in need. That service can be a smile, taking someone dinner, watching children, giving someone a ride, anything, just pay it forward."
I remember at the time thinking, "yeah, right, sure, whatever." But as time has gone by I have found myself in situations where I have been able to serve. I'm not talking about the calling in church, or anything like that, but actually giving of my time and doing something for someone else. It is an amazing feeling. I never really knew that it could feel so good. I actually look for ways to help other people. Sometimes due to other circumstances I'm not able to help, but when I can I do.
The past couple of weeks I've been helping a friend out by taking one of her children to a class that she has across town. I know that I am really helping this mother out by doing this, but more that anything, it is helping me out. I really look forward to Tuesday afternoons. This little girl loves to talk and we have some of the funnest conversations in the car. I never know what she will say next, but by the end of our 10-15 minute car ride, she has taught me something. Yesterday when I picked her up after class I pulled two small flowers off a bush (they smelled so good that I couldn't resist). I gave one to this little girl and she smelt it and said that it was her big sister's birthday and that flower would make a wonderful present for her sister. When I took her home and went inside with her the first thing she did was give her sister the flower and say happy birthday. This small act of kindness really touched my heart and I realized then that sometimes what we do doesn't have to be big but it can still make a difference. I'm thankful to that little girls mother for letting me be the one to take her daughter to class. Next week is the last week and after that I'm going to miss our rides together.
I know this is a long post, but I want to summarize a story that I just came across this morning as I was cleaning out drawers.
There was a man who drove a cab for a living. It was about 2:30 AM and he went to pick up a customer. There was just a dim light on in the home, and it wasn't in the best part of town. Some drivers would just honk and if no one came out they would drive off....he actually went up to the door to get the customer. It ended up being an old woman in her 80's, but who was dressed like it was 1940.
All the furniture in the home was covered and you could tell that she was leaving her home for the last time. She had a small suitcase and the cab driver carried it and helped her to his cab. She gave him the address on a small piece of paper and said that she was going to a hospice because the doctor had told her she couldn't live alone any longer and that she didn't have long to live.
At that point the cab driver turned off the meter and asked what route she would like for him to take. They drove through town for the next two hours or so. They stopped at her home where she grew up as a child, she showed him the first home she had with her husband when they were newlyweds (he was now deceased). She had him go to a furniture warehouse that use to be a dance hall when she was a young girl. They drove through neighborhoods and she would just stare into the darkness and say nothing at all. After a time she told him she was tired and ready to go. So he took he to the address and two nurses came out with a wheelchair and got her and began to take her inside. The cab driver bent down and hugged her. She held onto him for a long time and then told him, "you've given an old woman a moment of joy tonight, thank you."
The cab driver didn't pick up anymore customers that day. He just drove around thinking about the old woman. What if he wasn't the one to pick her up? What if he was in a hurry to get home? As he thought he realized that he probably hadn't done anything more important in his life than what he did that night for that woman.
As people we are conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments, but great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.
People may not remember exactly what we do for them or what we may say, but they will always remember how we made them feel.
Just remember to always try to pay it forward!

Easter Sunday and Spring Break
This last week has been fun for our family with Easter and spring break.
Last Saturday we went to my dad's home for an early Easter dinner. Aunt Peggy (dad's sister who lives in Sandy) came down and Dave and his family minus Ryan where there as well. We couldn't do the Easter egg hunt because it was raining an windy outside, but just the same it was nice to spend time together as a family.

On Easter Sunday the weather was nice and sunny so we went up to the Provo Temple and walked around the temple grounds with the boys. It was so nice and peaceful there, and the view of the valley was beautiful. We really are so blessed to have a temple only 5 minutes from our home.

We started spring break with a blast by going to Tucanos to celebrate my new upcoming job with Jet Blue.

Then on Thursday Brian went to the hot pots by Fillmore with a friend and his family for the day. Gio, Robert, and I went to SetteBello Pizzeria in SLC for a great Italian pizza, then Robert and I went to see Fast and the Furious. I only went because Robert wanted to see it, but it ended up being a really good movie.

On Friday we went to see 17 Again, (that was Gio's pick, Brian wanted Hannah Montana). I am not a huge Zac Efron fan, but it was actually a cute show and had some good morals. I actually left the theatre pleasantly surprised.

From there we went to the Sandy Aquarium. Brian has been wanting to go there for a while so we took the opportunity and went. It was so interesting to see all the different species of water creatures there. The jelly fish were beautiful and the sting ray's were amazing. Gio and Robert were brave enough to touch them. Brian and I were content to watch them.

We ended the day at Golden Corral. The kids love their Mac and Cheese and say it is the best around. Brian loves the fact that when we go there he can eat all the dessert he wants.
It was fun to spend time together as a family. It doesn't happen to much between work, school, and everyday life, so when we get the chance we enjoy it. As Robert grows older it will become even more difficult so it is nice to make the memories while we can.
This next week our memories will be made doing some work around the house and in the back yard getting things ready for graduation and Pino's arrival from Italy. We've played hard and now we get to work hard.

JET BLUE

I just have to share my exciting news.
As many of you know I have been trying to get hired on with Jet Blue Airways since March of 2008. Because of training schedules and a slow economy the training has been postponed several times.
Well.....this morning I got a call from Jet Blue and I will be starting on the 28th of April!! I am so thrilled!
I will train up in SLC for about 2 1/2 months, but after that I will work from home. It is a part time job, but I can pick up as many extra hours as I want, which means while Brian is in school I can work! And the travel benifits can't be beat! Finally I'm following in my mother's footsteps and working for the airlines!!! Yahoo!!
There is only one downfall to all of this. As I have written previously when Robert graduates next month we have a family trip planned to Florida. Well, I won't be going. I am not able to schedule time off for 90 days. It is really sad and a let down for our family, but...like I told them all...we will go on plenty of other trips. Maybe Italy by the end of the year???? And our 20 yr anniversary is in January, so who knows!
Wish me luck on this new chapter in my life! I have loved staying at home but knew I would need a job soon to help with college expenses, missions, etc...and this is the best of both worlds!

Things I Love that start with "I"
About a week ago I was tagged and I am finally getting around to it today. It has been much harder than I thought it would be. My friend thought that the letter "I" would be great for me because of my family and life, but instead I have stayed awake at night thinking about this. Finally today I think that I'm ready to post.
1. IRONMAN

I really loved the movie. I was actually surprised because Robert Downey Jr. has never been one of my favorite actors, but I think he did a really good job and the action was great and I liked the end of the movie...I'm really looking forward to #2.
2. IDAHO

After I graduated from high school I went to Rexburg, Idaho to Ricks College. I have to say that I really loved it there. I might not have done as well as I had liked in class, but I found myself and during that time I realized that I wanted to serve a mission. I remember some sister missionaries came to talk on Sunday at church and when they were done speaking I realized that I wanted to serve a mission. I had to wait a few years until I was old enough, but I never forgot about those sister missionaries and when the time came and I finally went I remembered them and the spirit I felt and wanted to share that with others.
3. INTERNET

This might seem like something dumb - but I love the Internet for so many reasons. It has been a way for me to connect with friends from my past and to keep in touch with them. My kids can do school projects with out having to go to the library (though that might not be a bad idea sometime. Do they even know what an index card is?) We have been able to do genealogy right from our home. I can do on line banking and pay bills, check my kids school grades. What an amazing tool/gift we have.
4.ICE

I love ice. I know that may seem weird, but I could chew on it all day long! Add a bit of diet Pepsi and the ice is even better. When I get a glass of pop it is 85% ice and 15% pop...or water, or whatever is in the glass...I just love ICE, especially after it sits for about 30-45 minutes. That is when it is the best!
5. IKEA

I really live going to the IKEA store. They have such amazing ideas of how to decorate your home and they give you great ideas for storage, etc. I could spend all day in there. Especially since I live in a small townhouse. The ideas they have are perfect for me.
6. IDOL

Who doesn't love Idol? I so look forward to Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. It is my relax time. (Especially now that ER is off the air on Thursdays!) This year it has been really fun and some of the talent is amazing. I am counting on my two favorites to be there at the end, Danny and Adam...then....I don't know!
7.ICE CREAM (GELATO)

I'm using the American word, ice cream, just so that I can fit it in the "I" category. I do love ice cream. Especially mint with the girl scout cookies or with oreos. Those are my favorites. But I also love Italian ice cream, or as they call it, Gelato! There is nothing like it!! If you've never tried it, go to Il Maestro Cafe on Center St in Provo next to Los Hermanos. It is to die for!!!
8.INCREDIBLES

What better animated movie is there. It is the all time favorite at my house. We love it! Mr. Incredible is my hero and his wife ain't half bad either!!! And Jack Jack is great! Every time I watch that show it makes me laugh and I feel so good when it's done. Isn't that what a movie is suppose to do????
9. ITALIAN MUSIC

You are listening to it now as you read this blog post. I could listen to it all day long, every day. My favorite singer is Claudio Baglioni (that is who is singing now). I have loved him since my mission when I first heard him. I always wanted to see him in concert, but when we lived in Italy we didn't have the money to go. And finally a little over a year ago he was in New Jersey at the Tropicana and Giovanni took me there for a 2 1/2 day trip so that I could see him. It was amazing! I actually went up to the stage while he was singing and he shook my hand! I felt like a teenager all over again.
10. ITALY

What can I say~ I save the best for last. I love ITALY! I love all things Italian. I love the people, the food, the culture, the music, the beach, the history, everything. I loved living in Italy and being an Italian. I love speaking Italian, reading Italian...I just love Italy. I feel so blessed that I married and Italian and we lived in Messina, Italy and that we can go back and visit and that Italy is a part of our children's heritage. If I'd never gone on a mission to Italy I would have never met Giovanni and our family wouldn't be...

Dance Like No One Is Watching
We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are. After that we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice vacation, when we retire. The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when?
Your life will always be filled with challanges. It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred D. Souza. He said, "For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin~real life. But there was always some obstacle in the the way, something do be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life."
This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have. And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time...and remember that time waits for no one...
So stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you loose ten pounds, until you gain ten pound, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter, until you are off welfare, until the first or fifteenth, until your song comes on, until you've had a drink, until you've sobered up, until you die, until you are born again to decied that there is no better time than right now to be happy...
Happiness is a journey, not a destination. Thought for the day, "Work like you don't need the money, Love like you've never been hurt, And dance like no one is watching."
I love this short little thought. Some of my friends lately have been saying that they wish they were different, or had done things differently, or this or that...and I've always said that life is a journey and to enjoy the ride. How true that is.
We need to be thankful and happy for the here and now in life. Yesterday is past and we can't do much about that, and who knows if we will be here tomorrow, but we are here today and today is a gift that is why it is called "present".
My mission president, Presidente Conforte, is a wise and wonderful man and I'm so thankful for the things he taught me while I was on my mission. There was a period of time at the start of my mission (I'd been out a few short months) when I was having a hard time with something, and he made a comment that I have tried to apply to every aspect of my life. He asked if I was doing the best that I could do? I replied, "of course". He repeated the question again and then said, "the only thing the Lord requires of us is to do our best for that day. Forget yesterday, and don't worry about the next day, but do your best today and the Lord will be pleased with you and what you are doing and trying to accomplish." Now he was refering to life in the mission field and that is different than everyday motherhood/wife/work world. However, the concept is the same. Think of today and do your best for today. That is all any of us can do.
So to all you friends out there wondering if you're good enough or thinking that you aren't: You are good enough! And I'm grateful to call you my friend.... And remember:

A to Z ~ All About Me
I have to admit that since I have an abundance of free time I have become a blog stalker. There as so many different types of blogs out there that I never even knew existed. Some are for organization, others for diets, cooking, the LDS woman, the writer, and then there are others that are just peoples everyday lives, but they open them up as a discusssion board. It has been great to see that there are other people out there that feel just like me, only they know how to write it much better than I can. I'm not much of a writer, but I think a lot, some times too much.
Today I want to try something new and just do an A~Z thing about me and my family. We'll see what happens...it could turn out okay or be a disaster, and if it is the later, well, I'll know to leave the blogging to Gio.

Q-Queen of the home and that is only because Gio treats me like one!
