July 4th was fantastic! We had our own family BBQ since it was just the four of us...we went to our favorite restaurant, Tucano's. We walked around downtown for a while and saw some of the attractions and Brian even got in on the fun! We went to the Stadium of Fire at BYU and had a great time. Brian took his friend Braxton with us. The main attraction was "the Beach Boys", and can I just tell you, they were fantastic! I think the best part, besides the music, was seeing all the "old" people get their groove on and get up and dance! We loved it. By the end even the boys got in on the action and were singing and dancing!
Here is Brian...he became "the boy in the plastic bubble". It was actually a cool game. They had these large bubble balls that you would get inside of and they filled them up with air and you would float on the water (there was a large pool type thing) and you would just try to run around and stand up, etc. Brian said it was harder than it looked...and that you stayed dry. We had a good laugh.
Here are a few other pictures of the day...
We have also seen some great summer movies. One of the best being "Batman". But what a tragedy what happened in Aurora Colorado. I am still in shock when I think of the violence that took place that night. It makes one wonder what the world is coming to...full of so much evil. We were blessed though on that same day to have the opportunity to go to a Pioneer Day Concert put on by the MoTab ( Mormon Tabernacle Choir). It was amazing. We had VIP tickets and were 4th row and center. We parked at the underground parking where the apostle's park and took the motor car that drives you through the tunnels under the temple...it was a really neat experience. The music that night was beautiful. The spirit so strong and just an overall amazing night! Katherine Jenkins was the special guest singer. Her voice is like an angel singing. If you ever see this program on TV, please take the time to watch it. You won't be sorry. Also..a special thanks to Alex and Jill for inviting us to go with them. We will be sad when they move in a few weeks.
After the concert Gio and I decided to go get a pizza...a real pizza...and ended up at Settebello in SLC. We ran into Lino and Rosy there. It was nice to see them again and catch up on things, it had been a while. They have had a few hard months with different things going on in their lives.
I learned a lot that evening about not judging people, forgiveness, compassion, kindness, and love. It is hard to see another person suffer and the pain in their eyes...but at the same time, it was true joy to also express love and friendship to someone. I am sure that the Lord lead our paths to cross that evening...more for me than for them.
The month has also been full of going to the water park, basketball, school for Robert, work, etc. The weather has been lovely and it has been a great July. There have been a few downs to the month as well...one in particular. Robert was in a scooter accident almost a week ago. He was passing a truck on the right, it seemed the truck was turning left, but instead doing a wide turn and the truck turned right into him...he was thrown from the scooter and rolled several times. When I spoke with the driver of the truck afterwards he said he was sure that Robert wouldn't get up off the ground when he stopped rolling and he really isn't sure how Robert wasn't hurt more than he was. I know exactly why...he had his guardian angels watching over him...Again!
He has some road rash on his arm, bum, and cuts on his legs...and a huge bruise on his leg...but no broken bones or stitches. He has been sore and had to take it easy for a few days...but he's getting better. We are so thankful that it wasn't any worse.
The legs don't look bad...but that long one actually is pretty deep...and as it is healing you can feel a "valley" in his leg. He looked better after he was cleaned up and home...and on some pain meds!
And a small chocolate shake always makes anything better!
For Pioneer Day there wasn't to much celebrating going on at our home. Robert still wasn't up to going out so I stayed home to "big boy sit" and Gio took Brian and his friend, Antonio to Timp Caves. They had a fun time and got some cool pictures too!
There was a snake exhibit going on at the caves so the boys took a look...you can tell that Gio loves having that snake on his neck...NOT!
Instead, Brian thought it was pretty cool...
A couple of nights ago Gio, Brian and a few of his friends hiked up to the Y..here's a small taste of our sunsets in Utah!
It's been a great summer...and we are sad to think that it is almost finished. In 3 1/2 weeks school will be starting back up again....so we are going to take advantage of these last few days and play as much as we can!
